Bilson & Associates Designs On-Structure Multifamily Project
Alexander at The District Entrance

Alexander at The District is a Multifamily Development that is built On-Structure over a parking deck, located just Northwest of Downtown Atlanta. Built by A.G. Spanos, a leader in Green Design across the country, this project exemplifies that spaces built over parking decks can be just as nice as those built on grade.

With outdoor gardens, courtyards and a large interior courtyard pool, this development offers multiple spaces for residents to relax and recharge. Bilson & Associates was chosen to provide Design Services and to develop Construction Documents for all Hardscape and Landscape features throughout the property, including the portions that were on-structure. With many years of Green Design experience, we were able to help streamline the planning process by incorporating key requirements into the design, as well as coordinate with the various consultants. This means fewer changes are required during construction, which equates to greater cost savings during development.

Designing on a parking deck can bring unique opportunities, but also unique constraints. Considerations must be given for how drainage is handled, how utilities and irrigation are routed, as well as how hardscape features are attached and anchored. With our expertise and creative solutions, our clients worries are lessened, and their projects are increased in value. Arbors, outdoor kitchens, raised planters and incredible landscapes are just a few of the features we bring to each On-Structure projects.

The Alexander at The District also provides a connection from the Multifamily development to an adjacent shopping village, also built On-Structure. An upper deck pedestrian bridge was provided to connect the two projects, making them appear part of the save overall development. Considerable attention to detail was given to this connection, as not only did it need to appear seamless, but it also is one of the most critical areas as each project will flex and shift at a different rate. Flexible joints and connections were utilized, while materials were selected to help draw the eyes away from the connection itself. In addition to the shrubs and ground covers used, over 125 trees were located on this property (including those On-Structure).
