Atlantic Station (a US Green Building Council LEED Certified Project) is the largest Urban Brownfield redevelopment in the U.S. Located on the former Atlantic Steel Mill in Midtown Atlanta, this project is the pinnacle of Green Design concepts and is a national model for smart growth and new urbanism. The 138-acre project is a true Mixed-Use community that combines residential, office and retail in one location, while also being located on top of a massive parking deck structure. Bilson & Associates was the lead Landscape Architecture firm to provide Landscape Architectural Design for the overall project.

Atlantic Station Hardscape & Landscape Features

Atlantic Station will provide approximately 15 million square feet of retail, office, residential and hotel space as well as 11 acres of public parks. With outdoor dining and gathering space at the center of the project, as well as multiple parks around the community, Atlantic Station offers its residents many areas to ‘experience’ from the city life.

The design for the streetscape of this project was challenging with much of the site built over a three level parking deck. Large concrete planters were designed as part of the parking deck structure to provide the opportunity for tree lined sidewalks within the retail district. Streetlights, benches and bollards were also used to provide a pedestrian friendly streetscape experience.

Atlantic Station Linear Parks

The Linear Park at Atlantic Station provides a Green connection from the existing neighborhoods to shopping, work and recreational opportunities in an urban setting. The park features a strong linear axis with wide sidewalks and benches, lined with large trees and planters. One section of the park also includes a small off-leash dog park which has become very popular with the residents. The large canopy trees in the park create a separation from the residential buildings and offer a shady retreat to beat the heat of Atlanta.
